An introduction to why...

 Hello Everyone!

My name is Holly, and I am an interior design student.  I have a passion for history and historic architecture, so I was very excited to see that we not only had the option of learning about architectural history, but also the history of furniture and decorating styles!

If I could travel to anywhere in the world, I would go to England.  I have always been fascinated with the history of Britain.  I would love to tour some of the old manor houses in the English countryside. I really enjoy the show Bridgeton, and would love to see some of the regency era architecture in person.  I have also recently been working on a personal project of building my family tree with the help of Ancestory.com, and have been able to trace my family back to an ancestral home in Kent.  It is now a bucket list item to travel there and see it for myself and imagine what it must have been like for my ancestors to have walked those halls.

When I take this trip I would like to stay at Chilston Park Hotel.  It is located in Kent in the countryside of England.  The origins of this grand estate turned hotel date back to 1100AD.

It has been updated to a luxury accommodation, while also paying homage to the history of the home.  They offer traditional English cultural activities such as a formal afternoon tea.  It would also be so peaceful to take a stroll through the gardens and explore the expansive grounds the estate rests on.

Around my home we have various antiques and knickknacks that we have inherited from family members over the years.  My favorite piece is an ashtray stand that we were using as a plant stand for many years.  It belonged to my great grand parents, then to my grandma, then to my family when my grandma passed in 2014.  I just think it is very elegant and eclectic.  It is unfortunately packed up in storage as I am taking it to my apartment while moving out of my fathers house, but I have attached an exact replica of it that I have found online.

I am very interested in learning about England and the Americas, because I love more modernish history.  I love the fashion and design choices of the 1700s to the 1910s.  I particularly enjoy Art Nouveau style.

I think it is so elegant and beautiful in the artwork of the time as well as the architectural influences.
